  34. *---------------------------- What it is -----------------------------*

  37. MIDI Spy is a MIDI recording tool that allows you to record and play
  38. back MIDI in a multi-tasking environment.  It runs as either a program
  39. or an accessory.  When installed as an accessory, it works completely in
  40. the background.  This means that it is always in record mode (unless you
  41. disable it).  As long as you haven't exhausted the memory area assigned
  42. to MIDI Spy, everything you play will be recorded regardless of your
  43. current computer activity.  You can be at the desktop, within any
  44. program, or even connected to an on-line service through your terminal
  45. program.

  47. MIDI Spy will load and save standard MIDI sequence files, allowing you to 
  48. load its songs into other MIDI sequencers, or load songs into MIDI Spy that 
  49. have been recorded on other sequencers and play them in the background from 
  50. MIDI Spy while you work on other things, even chained together, creating a 
  51. juke box effect.

  54. *------------------- Installing the MIDI Spy Demo --------------------*

  57. The MIDI Spy demo runs as a program or a desk accessory.  You can run it
  58. as a program by renaming it to MSPYDEMO.PRG.  But if you want to try out
  59. MIDI Spy's background capabilities, you'll need to install it as an
  60. accessory.  If you've got CodeHead's MultiDesk, you can load MIDI Spy as
  61. a _resident_ accessory.  Otherwise, copy MSPYDEMO.ACC into the root of
  62. your boot drive and reboot your computer.

  65. *--------------------- Using the MIDI Spy Demo -----------------------*

  68. Using the MIDI Spy Demo is extremely easy.  Let's start by recording
  69. something.  After installing the MIDI Spy Demo as an accessory, select
  70. it from the accessory menu.  The Main MIDI Spy Dialog box will appear on
  71. the screen.

  73. If you've connected your MIDI cords correctly, you can just start
  74. playing and everything you play will be recorded.  If you wait for five
  75. seconds and start playing again, a new song will be started.  To listen
  76. to what you've played, just click on Play or hit the space bar. 
  77. Playback will begin immediately.

  79. Most of the buttons in the main dialog box are self-explanatory.  There
  80. are also keypress equivalents for all of the buttons.  The following
  81. hot-key combinations are active even when the dialog box is not on the
  82. screen:
